Who is Andrea Joyful?

My name is Andrea and I am on a mission to share and encourage others to embrace joy in their journey.

From depression to joy

Although Joy is my middle name and a characteristic that many associate with me, I didn’t intentionally embrace joy in my life until I experienced depression in 2019. This is when I realised joy is more than just being happy and smiling a lot, and it is actually heavily linked with purpose and peace.

After lots of tearful prayer, Steve Harvey motivational videos and reading a brilliant book called “40 days to a joy-filled life” by Tommy Newberry, I felt like a new woman on a joy-filled mission! I was reminded of God's purpose for my life and started creating specific and actionable goals that jump started my pursuit of joy and changed my life.

Becoming a Joy Activist

I started my instagram page, @iamandreajoyful to motivate, empower and share joy with people by encouraging joyful mindset growth. I share easy and actionable tips for people to embrace joy in their life, as well as, faith posts based on biblical truths, with gratitude being a common theme running throughout.

Within my first month I had gained 500 organic followers which highlighted, to me, that people wanted and appreciated the joy I had to share. Even more than the followers, I loved the authentic and meaningful engagement towards my uplifting content.

The fact that my page started amidst the Black Lives Matter Protests in June 2020 meant that it shone as a source of joy and peace amidst anger, frustration and sadness. After my cousin called me a joy activist, It became clear to me that sharing joy was my form of activism and resistance and my page continues to be a valuable and vibrant resource for uplifting and informative content, rooted in joy.

I continue to show up authentically in all I do, whether in person or virtually, because if 2020 has taught me anything, it’s that I AM ENOUGH and I have A LOT to share with the world just as I am.
